Friends of the St. Clair River Winter Stonefly Search

February 17 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free
Rivers are full of life, even in the depths of winter!  Join Friends of the St. Clair River staff and Stream Team volunteers as we enter streams on a hunt for the elusive winter stonefly.  These tiny insects spend most of their lives in the water and emerge as adults in the winter when predators are mostly inactive.  Stoneflies are very sensitive to pollution and will not tolerate unhealthy water.  When we find them striving in a stream or river, it’s a sign of good water quality.

This event is free and open to participants of all ages and abilities.  No experience necessary!  We provide all the tools needed.  You bring your warm winter gear, snacks and water, and boots or waders.
