Cedar River Stream Sampling
September 7 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeLittle Forks began monitoring the water quality of the Cedar River back in 2015 and with an increase in restoration projects and land protection along the watershed, we have documented positive changes in the quality of the river.
We will meet at Gladwin Conservation District Community Garden pavilion on Saturday, September 7th at 10am to review the protocol for the day and divide into teams. We will sample six sites along the Cedar River in both Gladwin and Clare counties to collect macroinvertebrates, animals without a backbone that can be seen with the naked eye. After collection, we will reconvene at the Pavilion for lunch!
Using the specimens found in the river, we can determine the quality of the water. This is done on ID Night where volunteers can help identify the collected specimens. ID Night will take place on Monday, September 9th from 5:30-7pm at the Little Forks office in Midland (125 McDonald St, 2nd floor). If you would like to join us for ID Night, please send and email to ecianek@littleforks.org
