This video from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and posted on Peter Sinclair’s ClimateCrocks.com describes how decreasing ice has led to a rise in Great Lakes water temperature. Despite an increase in precipitation in the region, the increased water temperature has in turn increased evaporation, literally “sucking the lakes into the sky.” Lake levels have dropped to record lows of which they have not recovered for almost the past fifteen years. Writer Dan Egan of the Journal-Sentinel goes in-depth into the causes and effects of declining water levels on the Great Lakes. (4:01) |
