SUMMARY:River Raisin Watershed Council Adopt-A-Stream
DESCRIPTION:Interested in being a part of Adopt-a-Stream? \nVolunteer with us to look for and collect macroinvertebrates (aquatic bugs) on the bottoms of streams. Collection involves wading into a stream and using a special net to collect the insects. Sorters will be stationed along the bank and sift through the nets to extract the macro-invertebrates and place them in jars for further analysis on Bug ID Day. The Stream Captain directs the volunteers and ensures all tasks have been completed and every one is working safely. \nWhy do we do this? \nThese bugs tell us about the quality of the water in the streams and rivers. Certain species can tolerate more pollution and lower oxygen than others\, meaning when we find only those species\, the stream isn’t as healthy as it could be. Knowing this\, we can focus more conservation efforts and funds in the areas that need it most! \nThe time has come around again for RRWC staff and volunteers to participate in an age-old survey effort! Join us as we search for aquatic macroinvertebrates in order to better understand the water quality of the River Raisin Watershed. We invite you to jump on in at the following sites and locations: \n\nMonday\, May 12th\, 2025: Meeting at TBD\, Clinton\, MI.\nWednesday\, May 14th\, 2025: Meeting at Mill Pond Park\, Saline. \nThursday\, May 15th\, 2025: Meeting at Veterans Park\, Monroe. \nThursday\, May 15th\, 2025: Meeting at River Raisin Access (74 Ida Maybee Rd\, Monroe\, MI 48161). \nSaturday\, May 17th\, 2025: Meeting at Swain Memorial Park\, Brooklyn\, MI. \n\nPlease register below for the events and select which days/times you plan to attend. Please bring a water bottle and bring your own waterproof boots or waders. We will have a limited number of waders available for those who do not have their own. \nRegister HERE.
