SUMMARY:Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers needed! Join us to collect samples of aquatic insects\, snails\, and algae from local rivers\, and learn what they reveal about water quality. When you participate in our biannual Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program\, you’ll spend a morning “in the field” as a community scientist by gathering indicator species (insects that help us study water quality) and looking for invasive species like New Zealand Mudsnails and Didymo. No experience required! You may volunteer from the shore or in the stream\, and we can provide waders if needed. \nTo prepare: please arrive at our office a few minutes early\, bring your own water\, and be prepared to work outdoors in or around water. If you need to borrow waders\, please let us know what boot size. Lunch is provided! \nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. To register\, contact John Ransom at john@benziecd.org or 231-882-4391 x 13.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Vernal Pool Patrol Field Training with Benzie Conservation District and Michigan Vernal Pool Patrol\, on April 26\, 2025\, 10am-2pm. We’ll meet at the BCD office (280 S. Benzie Blvd\, Beulah\, MI 49617) and take a field trip to Platte River Park (2851 Indian Hill\, Honor\, MI 49640). Thank you for your interest in monitoring these amazing ecosystems!\n\nWhat to expect and how to prepare:\n\n\nAttendees must complete the free Michigan Vernal Pool Virtual Training Series before the event. You may either attend virtually (learn more and register here) or view past recordings/homework at this link.\nThe April 26 field training event will take place in our office and in the field. Please come prepared for both indoor and outdoor conditions (including a hike through the woods) and bring your own water and lunch.
