SUMMARY:Lake Investigation Workshop - Lake Lansing
DESCRIPTION:MAEOE is hosting a Lake Investigation Workshop on Monday\, August 22nd from 9am to 3pm on Lake Lansing. This workshop will help you learn how to include water investigation as part of you education program. Participants will experience a typical program done at Lake Lansing\, followed by exploration of ways of adapting something similar to your situation. That will include ideas for inexpensive equipment and ways to make your own equipment. Sampling and observations will be made from a dock\, along shore\, and on board a boat. Lunch will be included! DESCRIPTION:Attention Mid-Michigan Teachers! \nTake Advantage of a NEW environmental education program: \nMid-Michigan Watershed Connections \nWho can participate? Teachers of grades 6-9 and their students  \nWhat is it? An extensive professional development program to enable teachers to engage their students in learning about watersheds\, their importance\, and how to protect them. Connections will be made between land uses and water quality\, between parts of the water cycle\, between interior lakes and Great Lakes\, and between individual actions and water quality\, recreation\, and quality of life. \nBenefits: \n\n$500 stipend/teacher\n$200 budget/teacher to purchase equipment/materials for teaching environmental education\nFree field trip for your students to do water investigations\nExtensive set of teaching activities including Project WET (Water Education Today)\nAssistance from organizers *   Field trips for you on Lake Michigan and elsewhere\nContact with a variety of resource experts (potential speakers for your classes)\n\n*     Michigan SCECHS \nExpectations: \n\nAttend 70 hours of in-service training – between April 2022 and May 2023\n\nhalf will be outdoor field experiences  Get outside and have some fun !!\nmuch of it during 4 or 5 days in summer of 2022\nnone during the school day\n\n\nLead your students in instruction related to the program training (you choose to fit your curriculum)\nEngage students in a research or service project related to our watershed\n\nWe will help with all of this – providing lots of ideas\, resources\, and guidance. \nWhere possible we want to encourage teams of 2 teachers from a building to work together\, but this is not a requirement. \nThere is only room for 24 teachers.
